Thank you so much for the shout out, Kelly. Now I just need to launch my substack. You are a master of the craft- always have been, and I have learned so much from YOU!

Kelly, reported essays are my favorite, thanks for the reminder to pitch them more. You're a master at a good pitch letter, by the way!

How do you keep up your freelance pitching & writing mojo while also doing your FT job, while also parenting & living? That's what I really want to know. (You may have "lost your mojo," but you still have a whole lot more than I do!)

Good question. First off, I do *far* less freelancing than I did before; maybe one to four pieces/month, max. Depending on the day, I may start off my morning working on my freelance assignments (instead of doing morning pages), or I work on them at the end of my workday (not my favorite thing to do).

I also "task batch" as much as I can--set up interviews around the same time, do a bunch of research for different assignments at the same time, you name it. It's a better use of my time.

And, it sounds counterintuitive, but I take as much time away from writing as I can. I spend time playing pool, sitting outside, hanging with the kids ... things that reboot me and do not involve writing per se. :)
